As a practising architect, I am particularly inspired by the physical presence of buildings. Through drawing I aim to portray qualities such as weight, material and scale. Before drawing, I carefully choose the vantage point so that something of the poetics, the drama or the beauty of the setting is captured in the composition. I then aim for accuracy in terms of perspective and light / shadow to give the drawing real presence and authenticity.

The majority of drawings are done free-hand on location. I typically work in black and white with a pencil and graphite stick, but I tend to use pastel for those settings in which colour is an important element.
